“I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.” – Carl Jung

I provide individual psychotherapy to people from many walks of life in my psychotherapy practice in New York City.

Individual therapy offers the most personalized approach to your specific needs. This most typically involves weekly 50- minute appointments focused on your reasons for seeking out therapy services. Whether you are looking for a solution to a specific issue, are struggling with various challenges, or are wanting to understand your own inner workings, it is well known that the best results are often achieved with a therapist you feel comfortable and connected to.

Group therapy can be an excellent complement to individual therapy or can stand alone depending on your circumstances. Groups typically have a specific focus or approach and members of a group gain a sense of connection and understanding from others with similar experiences. I do not currently offer group therapy in my practice, but have many colleagues that do if this is something that interests you or has been recommended to you.

I welcome anyone who is seeking help and that I have the skill set to work with in my practice. Because of my professional and personal experience and training, I often find myself working with the following groups:

  • Survivors of Trauma- Individuals that have experienced destructive or injurious, acute or chronic, emotional, mental, and/or physical victimization often experience painful and lasting impacts that are highly treatable with the right approach and support. I have trained in various trauma based treatments and have worked extensively with the impacts of trauma both in my practice and through my work with 9/11 Responders since 2010.
  • First-Responders– This includes fire fighters, law enforcement , EMS workers and also active duty military and veterans who live or work in New York City. For many individuals this work is not just a job, but becomes part of identity. These are also jobs that are inherently dangerous and first responders are at high risk for first and second-hand trauma exposure. There are many options of support available through peer and work resources, but many responders are highly concerned about privacy and opt to go the route of seeking outside help. If you are managing difficult reactions to work or are noticing changes to your behavior or relationships, there is help available. Please reach out.
  • New Parents– Welcoming a child into the world can be a tremendous source of joy, but can also be an incredibly challenging life transition. The post-partum period is physically and emotional demanding for new mothers and fathers in unique ways and having supports in place can be critical. If you are struggling with any aspect of this period, or the months or years that follow (parenting can always be challenging), the decision to take care of yourself can be tough but is crucial.
  • Dancers and Performing Artists– Being in the arts in NYC is a labor of love and can be overwhelming or draining. These are careers in which success is often tied to something deeply personal (your craft) and this has it’s own specific challenges. Whether you are facing struggles while getting started or are mid-career, both which can be rife with ups and downs, or are having difficulty transitioning away from something that has become a part of you, please reach out.
  • Professionals– Career challenges, including how to manage demands across domains of life can be incredibly difficult and can result in anxiety, depression and other stress-related effects. If you find yourself suffering as a result of work and other stressors, making the choice to prioritize your well being can be a true lifeline.
  • College Students– The college years can be uniquely challenging. Academic life can be demanding as can the transition to self-sufficiency and independence for those that are newly away from their home of origin. Graduate students similarly can face difficulties with workload and the pressures of transitioning into the professional world. If you are in need of support at this stage of life, please know that you are not alone, and don’t hesitate to reach out. I am paneled with Columbia’s student insurance, but if you are a student in one of the many New York City’s Universities and colleges, I’d be glad to discuss your options.

In the end, every person is unique, and so are the circumstances that might lead them to therapy. The unifying factor across individuals that I work with is a desire to work on themselves to see change or improvement in their quality of life. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
